Overkill number of SSDs? Check. RAID? Check. Way too much performance? DEFINITELY Check.

I have a similar setup except im using 8 4tb ssd's in a raid 10 config. I tried enabling write back cache but it says my device doesn't support it WTF IS THIS SHIT, I love how you say it like it was no big deal but now I have a $5700 server that is not giving me the performance I want. I'm using an adaptec 5805, I don't know if that's the issue or not as I cant find any documents stating that it doesn't support write back cache. Somebody please help.
here im like 960gb …why not 4TB oh wait this is 5 years ago XD
2:10 where tf are the sandals?
In 2020 1tb per ssd… Sweet. Now we got 8tb per drive
rip dgboost
What did he do to the Mcdonalds toy lol
For us in the future looking at these $14k pricetags, don't worry!
You can scoop up 1TB for $90 these days, that's only $2160 🥂
funny to see that you can today get those speeds with just a simple m.2 ssd ^^
Hey! i am from future…
You might change your mind about x99..
Such a waste of space putting ssd's in a case designed for HDD's
If you do this (but then in small, like 6tb), can you put steam in there and game from the server?
So, if this server was backed up overnight, why was it so catastrophic when the RAID card failed? Sure, you lose one day of data, but is that the end of the world? It sounded like they almost lost a lot more than one day of work.
linus make something simmelair but only with pci-e ssd's
whats your power bill look like lol
Linus really needs to stop saying "floats my geeky boat"
Resists urge to do something stupid
Don't you just love the server in the bathroom? LOL
Also, he had no idea what he was in for.
4 GB/s is the bandwidth of 1 m.2 ssd now.
a case that size for 24 drives when you don't need a case that big since they make products that could put 4 times that many ssd's in a case that size.
Now try this with NVMe SSDs. 😀
2012 lol
20 TB of storage? 4 years later, this is the amount routinely provided by a 2 bay NAS 🙂
"HX1200i" lolz
Holding out for the 2 Petabyte PCIe 4-channel 16X ported for a scratch disk RAID 0 for ADOBE PREMIERE PRO; it does demand its pound of flesh.
Thank God no one in their right mind would use Windows softwar raid….kinda common knowledge in 20xx anytime.
Im using on my server a HDD sata 2 7200rpm drive, which has i think 20mb/s if i need to copy a 6gb data base it takse me around 3h. 😀
On Windows… seriously guys 😀 worst server is I've ever had to work with .
You could re do this with threadripper because of all the PCI lanes
I would have loved if he tried to replicate this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eULFf6F5Ri8 at some point.
Linus Tech Tips has awesome videos. Love watching them. But out of curiosity why use Windows for a high performance server? Wouldn't Linux be better? Oh and just out of curiosity do hardware controllers have better performance than software raid?
is that pcie lane make speed of ssd down to 5500MBps?
I want one…
The Tim Allen grunt made me laugh 🤣
Kingston was messing with him. They told him to get them cards, then they fail 🤣
to properly test the bottle neck of the array, create a ram disk then copy the file. I assume you have enough ram to do the test just a thought.
any spare raid cards available? 🙂
This server never had any problems
